The case

Bar Blend is a group of three bars on Reguliersdwarsstraat in Amsterdam, LGBTQIA+ and friends, since 2019. We designed and build barblend.nl and the event site of MainStage Pride Amsterdam, the Dam Square stage the group presents.

A hospitality group lives by dates: a festival week, a theme night, an event. A campaign on the homepage has to be there on time and gone cleanly afterwards. At the same time every bar has to keep its own face within one site.

  • Phone first

Both sites were designed for the phone first: the headline and the main button are in view straight away.

  • Updating around the calendar

The Creativity Lab designed and builds barblend.nl and mainstageprideamsterdam.nl, and updates both around campaigns and events.

How we design, build and then maintain a site like this is on our web design page.

The result

barblend.nl and mainstageprideamsterdam.nl are live, in Dutch and English.

  • 2 sites, both with a credit to The Creativity Lab in the footer
  • 1 config file per campaign, with a start and an end
  • 3 days of MainStage Pride, line-up per day
  • 2 languages, Dutch and English on both sites

MainStage Pride tickets are sold through the official ticket shop, not through a till of our own.

We do not publish figures on visits, reservations or tickets sold. We only share such figures with Bar Blend's agreement, with a source and a measuring period.

The solution

One site for the group, one event site for the stage.

  • barblend.nl

The group's bars, a gallery, guides on the blog, reservations and a page to hire a venue, in Dutch and English.

  • Campaigns with an end date

Start, end and content of a campaign live in one config file; after the end the takeover leaves the homepage on its planned date.

  • “Lights on” intro

A neon logo that switches on as the site opens, drawn by our own WebGL2 renderer, with a short calm version for visitors who prefer less motion.

  • MainStage Pride Amsterdam

One page with the line-up per day, ticket buttons to the official ticket shop, an accessibility information panel and a Dutch and English version.

Technology

  • Next.js on Vercel

barblend.nl is built in Next.js and runs on Vercel, with the venue and campaign data in config files that feed the pages, the structured data and the navigation at once.

  • A static event site

MainStage Pride Amsterdam is a static page without a framework, with structured data for the event and its days.
